Connect Mailchimp
What is this connection for?
Section titled “What is this connection for?”Mailchimp allows ELChat to view your audiences and campaigns, check the status of a contact and launch a registration with confirmation by email.
What you need
Section titled “What you need”ELChat requests a mailchimp API key. It ends with the data centre code, for examplexxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx-us21. This key inherits the role of the user who creates it and can give wide access to the account.
Get the key
Section titled “Get the key”- Log in to Mailchimp with an authorized user.
- Click on the profile icon.
- Open Profile.
- Go to Extras > API keys.
- Click Create A Key.
- Name her
ELChat, generate it and copy it immediately.

Connect and verify
Section titled “Connect and verify”- Open Dashboard > your site > IA Actions > Connectors.
- Click Connect on the Mailchimp map.
- Paste the full key, including suffix
-usXX. - Validate.
- Have ELChat list the hearings and compare their name and number of members with Mailchimp.

Any new registration is created to depending status: Mailchimp sends a double opt-in email. ELChat never directly forces statussubscribed.
ELChat does not create, modify or send a campaign.
Current configuration limitation
Section titled “Current configuration limitation”The connector can use a default audience, but the current form does not offer this setting. ELChat must therefore first list the hearings and use the ID of the one chosen for verification or registration.
Reconnect, Disconnect and Troubleshoot
Section titled “Reconnect, Disconnect and Troubleshoot”Create a new key, reconnect and test the audience list before deleting the old one. The Disable button does not invalidate the key in Mailchimp.
- Failed key: check the data centre suffix and the state of the owner user. Hearing required: List the hearings and choose his ID.
- Contact still pending: the recipient must open Mailchimp email and confirm.
- No campaign: check the status requested and the limit of 50 results.
Security and compliance
Section titled “Security and compliance”The key can give wide access. Use a limited user, protect the key and remove it in case of exposure. Sign up for contact only after explicit consent; double opt-in does not replace fair collection of consent.
Example: newsletter audience
After connecting to a dedicated key, list the audiences and chooseNewsletter — France. Then look for the test contacttest@example.com, check its status and consent, then request its registration only with confirmation.
Reading the audience avoids adding contact to a list of another country or other use. The data center suffix of the key must be retained as it indicates the Mailchimp instance to contact.
